KEGUMS (Latvia) 7 July 2013
The treacherous sands of the Grand Prix of Latvia proved once again to be Gautier Paulin's Achilles heel as he failed to make the podium in MX1. The AGV rider started this eleventh round of the series from a promising third position on the grid after the qualifying rounds. When the flag dropped, the Kawasaki team rider was one of the first away but an unfortunate incident with another rider left the Frenchman on the ground. Gautier then re-started from last and made a strong ride back through the pack to finish fifth. In Race 2, he again started with the leading pack and was in fifth for most of the race until the closing stages when he gained a further place by overtaking Tommy Searle. The end result was that Paulin finished in fourth place overall for the day which keeps him in a solid second place behind the leader Antonio Cairoli.
Racing as always in his AGV AX-8 Evo helmet, David Philippaerts finished in 11th place overall as in the previous round and the TM team rider Tanel Leok, in his second race for the team from Pesaro, came home in 18th place. This was no doubt due to the fact that he is still recovering from a recent injury to his collar bone.
The next GP will take place on 14 July at Hyvinkää in Finland.
